Mental Health Partnership Council (MHPC)

The Capital Area Health Alliance Mental Health Partnership Council promotes wellness of both behavioral and physical health (the whole person). The committee provides resources for quality and accessibility of behavior and physical health services within the community and offers educational events and information to increase awareness and reduce stigma attached to illness.

In 2013, MHPC will increase its activity to provide information on the whole person. Topics to be covered will include: Mental Illness in the Family, Managing Diabetes, How to Get through the Mental Health System, Child Trauma: The Whole-Brain Child, Teenagers and Alcohol, The Truth About Marijuana, Where Can I Find Help, ADHD Is Real, and Medications and/or the Natural Solution.

Over 900 people in the tri-county area attended the 2012 presentations which included: Choices in Recovery-Relapse Awareness and Reduction Strategies, Erasing the Stigma of Mental Illness with Kathy Cronkite, and Dealing Successfully with the Challenges of Psychological and Physical Illnesses.

Current active members of the council include: Michigan State University School of Social Work, Sparrow Behavioral Health, Tri County Office on Aging, Peckham Industries, Lansing Community College–Human Services, Lansing Community College–School of Nursing, NAMI, United Way, Ingham County Health Department, Capital Area Health Alliance, Rainbow Homes, Michigan Protection & Advocacy, Hope Network, Co-Dependency Support Group, and United Cerebral Palsy.

Other Events

March 24, 2014 (9:30-11:30 a.m.), is our Annual Community Event at the Lansing Center with guest speaker Blake Leeper on "Finding Abilities in Your Disabilities." Blake's  ambition is to become the first American Paralympian to run in the able-bodied Olympic Games. This event is FREE and open to the community.
